OBJECTIVE: Uterine corpus endometrial carcinoma (UCEC), a kind of gynecologic malignancy, poses a significant risk to women's health. The precise mechanism underlying the development of UCEC remains elusive. Zinc finger protein 554 (ZNF554), a member of the Krüppel-associated box domain zinc finger protein superfamily, was reported to be dysregulated in various illnesses, including malignant tumors. This study aimed to examine the involvement of ZNF554 in the development of UCEC. METHODS: The expression of ZNF554 in UCEC tissues and cell lines were examined by qRT-PCR and Western blot assay. Cells with stably overexpressed or knocked-down ZNF554 were established through lentivirus infection. CCK-8, wound healing, and Transwell invasion assays were employed to assess cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. Propidium iodide (PI) staining combined with fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS) flow cytometer was utilized to detect cell cycle distribution. qRT-PCR and Western blotting were conducted to examine relative mRNA and protein levels. Chromatin immunoprecipitation assay and luciferase reporter assay were used to explore the regulatory role of ZNF554 in RNA binding motif 5 (RBM5). RESULTS: The expression of ZNF554 was found to be reduced in both UCEC samples and cell lines. Decreased expression of ZNF554 was associated with higher tumor stage, decreased overall survival, and reduced disease-free survival in UCEC. ZNF554 overexpression suppressed cell proliferation, migration, and invasion, while also inducing cell cycle arrest. In contrast, a decrease in ZNF554 expression resulted in the opposite effect. Mechanistically, ZNF554 transcriptionally regulated RBM5, leading to the deactivation of the Wingless (WNT)/ß-catenin signaling pathway. Moreover, the findings from rescue studies demonstrated that the inhibition of RBM5 negated the impact of ZNF554 overexpression on ß-catenin and p-glycogen synthase kinase-3ß (p-GSK-3ß). Similarly, the deliberate activation of RBM5 reduced the increase in ß-catenin and p-GSK-3ß caused by the suppression of ZNF554. In vitro experiments showed that ZNF554 overexpression-induced decreases in cell proliferation and migration were counteracted by RBM5 knockdown. Additionally, when RBM5 was overexpressed, it hindered the improvements in cell proliferation and migration caused by reducing the ZNF554 levels. CONCLUSION: ZNF554 functions as a tumor suppressor in UCEC. Furthermore, ZNF554 regulates UCEC progression through the RBM5/WNT/ß-catenin signaling pathway. ZNF554 shows a promise as both a prognostic biomarker and a therapeutic target for UCEC.

Background: and purpose: Acupuncture and moxibustion, as a complementary and alternative therapy, has been widely used in the treatment of acute gouty arthritis (AGA). However, there are various forms of acupuncture and moxibustion, and the curative effect of different forms is different. This study evaluated the clinical efficacy of different acupuncture therapies in treating AGA by network meta-analysis. Methods: Computer searches of English databases (including PubMed, The Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), Web of Science, Embase) and Chinese databases (including China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), VIP Database, Wanfang Database and China Biomedical Literature Database) were conducted for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of acupuncture therapies in treating AGA. We set the search time from the database establishment to May 2022. Data analysis was performed using Stata14.2 software. Results: Thirty-two RCTs involving 2434 patients with AGA were screened out. The results showed that in terms of the improvement of pain visual analogue scale (VAS) scores, the top ones were acupoint application (100%), electroacupuncture + Western medicine (73.5%) and acupuncture + Western medicine (69.2%); In terms of total effective rate, acupoint application (85.2%), acupuncture (75.2%) and acupuncture + Western medicine (63%) ranked the top; In terms of reducing serum uric acid (SUA) levels, the top ones were acupoint application (95%), acupuncture + Western medicine (87.5%) and acupuncture (66.2%); In terms of the reduction of erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), acupuncture (95%), acupoint application (84.7%), and electroacupuncture + Western medicine (52.8%) were the most prominent. Conclusion: The existing evidence shows that acupoint application has more advantages in improving the total effective rate, improving pain and reduce SUA levels, and acupuncture has an advantage in reducing ESR levels and adverse events. However, due to the low qualities of the original studies, the quality of this evidence is poor. Therefore, it is recommended that more scientific research be performed to confirm the efficacy of acupuncture.

Polymer cubosomes (PCs) have well-defined inverse bicontinuous cubic mesophases formed by amphiphilic block copolymer bilayers. The open hydrophilic channels, large periods and robust physical properties of PCs are advantageous to many host-guest interactions and yet not fully exploited, especially in the fields of functional nanomaterials. Here, we systematically investigate the self-assembly of poly(ethylene oxide)-block-polystyrene block copolymers and develop a series of robust PCs via a cosolvent method. Ordered nanoporous metal oxide particles are obtained by selectively filling the hydrophilic channels of PCs via an impregnation strategy, followed by a two-step thermal treatment at high temperatures. Based on this versatile PCs platform, we demonstrate the general synthesis of a library of ordered porous particles with different pore structures (Pm 3 ¯ $\bar{3}$ m and Fd 3 ¯ $\bar{3}$ m), tunable large pore size (18-78 nm) and periodicity (36.1-92.4 nm), high specific surface areas (up to 123.3 m2·g-1 for WO3) and diverse framework compositions, such as transition and non-transition metal oxides, rare earth chloride oxides, perovskite, pyrochlore and high-entropy metal oxides. As typical materials obtained via this method, ordered porous WO3 particles have advantages of highly opened continuous structure and semiconducting properties, thus showing superior gas sensing performances towards hydrogen sulfide, a typical toxic gas that threatens the environment. Monitoring and predicting the regional groundwater storage (GWS) fluctuation is an essential support for effectively managing water resources. Therefore, taking Shandong Province as an example, the data from Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) and GRACE Follow-On (GRACE-FO) is used to invert GWS fluctuation from January 2003 to December 2022 together with Watergap Global Hydrological Model (WGHM), in-situ groundwater volume and level data. The spatio-temporal characteristics are decomposed using Independent Components Analysis (ICA), and the impact factors, such as precipitation and human activities, which are also analyzed. To predict the short-time changes of GWS, the Support Vector Machines (SVM) is adopted together with three commonly used methods Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), Singular Spectrum Analysis (SSA), Auto-Regressive Moving Average Model (ARMA), as the comparison. The results show that: (1) The loss intensity of western GWS is significantly greater than those in coastal areas. From 2003 to 2006, GWS increased sharply; during 2007 to 2014, there exists a loss rate - 5.80 ± 2.28 mm/a of GWS; the linear trend of GWS change is - 5.39 ± 3.65 mm/a from 2015 to 2022, may be mainly due to the effect of South-to-North Water Diversion Project. The correlation coefficient between GRACE and WGHM is 0.67, which is consistent with in-situ groundwater volume and level. (2) The GWS has higher positive correlation with monthly Global Precipitation Climatology Project (GPCP) considering time delay after moving average, which has the similar energy spectrum depending on Continuous Wavelet Transform (CWT) method. In addition, the influencing facotrs on annual GWS fluctuation are analyzed, the correlation coefficient between GWS and in-situ data including the consumption of groundwater mining, farmland irrigation is 0.80, 0.71, respectively. (3) For the GWS prediction, SVM method is adopted to analyze, three training samples with 180, 204 and 228 months are established with the goodness-of-fit all higher than 0.97. The correlation coefficients are 0.56, 0.75, 0.68; RMSE is 5.26, 4.42, 5.65 mm; NSE is 0.28, 0.43, 0.36, respectively. The performance of SVM model is better than the other methods for the short-term prediction.

Staphylococcus pseudintermedius (S. pseudintermedius) is a common pathogen that causes canine corneal ulcers. However, the pathogenesis remained unclear. In this study, it has been demonstrated that S. pseudintermedius invaded canine corneal epithelial cells (CCECs) intracellularly, mediating oxidative damage and pyroptosis by promoting the accumulation of intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) and activating the NLRP3 inflammasome. The canine corneal stroma was infected with S. pseudintermedius to establish the canine corneal ulcer model in vivo. The intracellular infectious model in CCECs was established in vitro to explore the mechanism of the ROS - NLRP3 signalling pathway during the S. pseudintermedius infection by adding NAC or MCC950. Results showed that the expression of NLRP3 and gasdermin D (GSDMD) proteins increased significantly in the infected corneas (p < 0.01). The intracellular infection of S. pseudintermedius was confirmed by transmission electron microscopy and immunofluorescent 3D imaging. Flow cytometry analysis revealed that ROS and pyroptosis rates increased in the experimental group in contrast to the control group (p < 0.01). Furthermore, NAC or MCC950 inhibited activation of the ROS - NLRP3 signalling pathway and pyroptosis rate significantly, by suppressing pro-IL-1ß, cleaved-IL-1ß, pro-caspase-1, cleaved-caspase-1, NLRP3, GSDMD, GSDMD-N, and HMGB1 proteins. Thus, the research confirmed that oxidative damage and pyroptosis were involved in the process of CCECs infected with S. pseudintermedius intracellularly by the ROS - NLRP3 signalling pathway. The results enrich the understanding of the mechanisms of canine corneal ulcers and facilitate the development of new medicines and prevention measures.

Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by the formation of atherosclerotic plaques, while macrophages as key players in plaque progression and destabilization are promising targets for atherosclerotic plaque imaging. Contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (CE-MRI) has emerged as a powerful noninvasive imaging technique for the evaluation of atherosclerotic plaques within arterial walls. However, the visualization of macrophages within atherosclerotic plaques presents considerable challenges due to the intricate pathophysiology of the disease and the dynamic behavior of these cells. Biocompatible ferrite nanoparticles with diverse surface ligands possess the potential to exhibit distinct relaxivity and cellular affinity, enabling improved imaging capabilities for macrophages in atherosclerosis. In this work, we report macrophage-affinity nanoparticles for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of atherosclerosis via tailoring nanoparticle surface coating. The ultrasmall zinc ferrite nanoparticles (Zn0.4Fe2.6O4) as T1 contrast agents were synthesized and modified with dopamine, 3,4-dihydroxyhydrocinnamic acid, and phosphorylated polyethylene glycol to adjust their surface charges to be positively, negatively, and neutrally charged, respectively. In vitro MRI evaluation shows that the T1 relaxivity for different surface charged Zn0.4Fe2.6O4 nanoparticles was three higher than that of the clinically used Gd-DTPA. Furthermore, in vivo atherosclerotic plaque MR imaging indicates that positively charged Zn0.4Fe2.6O4 showed superior MRI efficacy on carotid atherosclerosis than the other two, which is ascribed to high affinity to macrophages of positively charged nanoparticles. This work provides improved diagnostic capability and a better understanding of the molecular imaging of atherosclerosis.

The discovery of new superconductors based on topological insulators always captures special attention due to their unique structural and electronic properties. High pressure is an effective way to regulate the lattice as well as electronic states in the topological insulators, thus altering their electronic properties. Herein, we report the structural and electrical transport properties of the topological insulator GeBi2Te4by using high-pressure techniques. The synchrotron x-ray diffraction revealed that GeBi2Te4underwent two structural phase transitions fromR-3m(phase I) toC2/m(phase II) and then intoIm-3m(phase III). Superconductivity was observed at 6.6 GPa to be associated with the first structural phase transition. The superconducting transition temperatureTcreached a maximum value of 8.4 K, accompanied by theRHsign changing from negative to positive at 14.6 GPa, then gradually decreased with increasing pressure in phase III, showing a dome-shaped phase diagram. The present results provide a platform for understanding the interplay between the crystal structure and superconductivity by the regulation of pressure in the topological insulator materials.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Intracranial plaque enhancement (IPE) identified by contrast-enhanced vessel wall MR imaging (VW-MR imaging) is an emerging marker of plaque instability related to stroke risk, but there was no standardized timing for postcontrast acquisition. We aim to explore the optimal postcontrast timing by using multiphase contrast-enhanced VW-MR imaging and to test its performance in differentiating culprit and nonculprit lesions. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients with acute ischemic stroke due to intracranial plaque were prospectively recruited to undergo VW-MR imaging with 1 precontrast phase and 4 consecutive postcontrast phases (9 minutes and 13 seconds for each phase). The signal intensity (SI) values of the CSF and intracranial plaque were measured on 1 precontrast and 4 postcontrast phases to determine the intracranial plaque enhancement index (PEI). The dynamic changes of the PEI were compared between culprit and nonculprit plaques on the postcontrast acquisitions. RESULTS: Thirty patients with acute stroke (aged 59 ± 10 years, 18 [60%] men) with 113 intracranial plaques were included. The average PEI of all intracranial plaques significantly increased (up to 14%) over the 4 phases. There was significantly increased PEI over the 4 phases for culprit plaques (an average increase of 23%), but this was not observed for nonculprit plaques. For differentiating culprit and nonculprit plaques, we observed that the performance of IPE in the second postcontrast phase (cutoff = 0.83, AUC = 0.829 [0.746-0.893]) exhibited superior accuracy when compared with PEI in the first postcontrast phase (cutoff = 0.48; AUC = 0.768 [0.680-0.843]) (P = .022). CONCLUSIONS: A 9-minute delay of postcontrast acquisition can maximize plaque enhancement and better differentiate between culprit and nonculprit plaques. In addition, culprit and nonculprit plaques have different enhancement temporal patterns, which should be evaluated in future studies.

BACKGROUND: Detecting and segmenting intracranial aneurysms (IAs) from angiographic images is a laborious task. OBJECTIVE: To evaluates a novel deep-learning algorithm, named vessel attention (VA)-Unet, for the efficient detection and segmentation of IAs. METHODS: This retrospective study was conducted using head CT angiography (CTA) examinations depicting IAs from two hospitals in China between 2010 and 2021. Training included cases with subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) and arterial stenosis, common accompanying vascular abnormalities. Testing was performed in cohorts with reference-standard digital subtraction angiography (cohort 1), with SAH (cohort 2), acquired outside the time interval of training data (cohort 3), and an external dataset (cohort 4). The algorithm's performance was evaluated using sensitivity, recall, false positives per case (FPs/case), and Dice coefficient, with manual segmentation as the reference standard. RESULTS: The study included 3190 CTA scans with 4124 IAs. Sensitivity, recall, and FPs/case for detection of IAs were, respectively, 98.58%, 96.17%, and 2.08 in cohort 1; 95.00%, 88.8%, and 3.62 in cohort 2; 96.00%, 93.77%, and 2.60 in cohort 3; and, 96.17%, 94.05%, and 3.60 in external cohort 4. The segmentation accuracy, as measured by the Dice coefficient, was 0.78, 0.71, 0.71, and 0.66 for cohorts 1-4, respectively. VA-Unet detection recall and FPs/case and segmentation accuracy were affected by several clinical factors, including aneurysm size, bifurcation aneurysms, and the presence of arterial stenosis and SAH. CONCLUSIONS: VA-Unet accurately detected and segmented IAs in head CTA comparably to expert interpretation. The proposed algorithm has significant potential to assist radiologists in efficiently detecting and segmenting IAs from CTA images.

BACKGROUND: In aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage patients with multiple intracranial aneurysms (aSAH-MIA patients), the risk of secondary unruptured intracranial aneurysms is inconsistent. This study aimed to explore the risk of unruptured aneurysms in Chinese aSAH-MIA patients. METHODS: The medical records and angiographic images of aSAH-MIA patients from eight cerebrovascular centers in China were retrospectively reviewed and analyzed. Patients with a single unruptured intracranial aneurysm (UIA) and no prior aSAH were used as controls. Propensity score matching (PSM) was employed to balance the differences in age, gender, aneurysm size, aneurysm site, and follow-up duration between the two groups. RESULTS: The study included 267 unruptured aneurysms from 204 aSAH-MIA patients and 769 single UIA. After PSM, 201 aneurysms were enrolled in the aSAH-MIA group and 201 aneurysms in the control group. The mean follow-up was 2.2 years. Thirty-four aneurysm instability events (28 growth and 6 rupture, 16.9%) occurred during follow-up in the aSAH-MIA group and 16 instability events (13 growth and 3 rupture, 8%) occurred in the control group. Risk factors for aneurysmal instability were aneurysm irregularity (OR 2.53; 95% CI 1.18 to 4.31), higher size ratio (OR 1.23; 95% CI 1.37 to 4.39), and middle cerebral artery location (OR 1.86; 95% CI 1.03 to 3.17). The risk of aneurysmal instability was substantially elevated in the aSAH-MIA group (HR 2.07; 95% CI 1.12 to 3.02). CONCLUSIONS: Unruptured aneurysms in Chinese aSAH-MIA patients exhibited higher risks of growth and rupture than in patients with a single UIA. Middle cerebral artery location, higher size ratio and irregular shape were associated with higher risk of growth or rupture.

OBJECTIVES: Wall remodeling and inflammation accompany symptomatic unruptured intracranial aneurysms (UIAs). The volume transfer constant (Ktrans) of dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) reflects UIA wall permeability. Aneurysmal wall enhancement (AWE) on vessel wall MRI (VWI) is associated with inflammation. We hypothesized that Ktrans is related to symptomatic UIAs and AWE. METHODS: Consecutive patients with UIAs were prospectively recruited for 3-T DCE-MRI and VWI from January 2018 to March 2023. UIAs were classified as asymptomatic and symptomatic if associated with sentinel headache or oculomotor nerve palsy. Ktrans and AWE were assessed on DCE-MRI and VWI, respectively. AWE was evaluated using the AWE pattern and wall enhancement index (WEI). Spearman's correlation coefficient and univariate and multivariate analyses were used to assess correlations between parameters. RESULTS: We enrolled 82 patients with 100 UIAs (28 symptomatic and 72 asymptomatic). The median Ktrans (2.1 versus 0.4 min-1; p < 0.001) and WEI (1.5 versus 0.4; p < 0.001) were higher for symptomatic aneurysms than for asymptomatic aneurysms. Ktrans (odds ratio [OR]: 1.60, 95% confidence interval [95% CI]: 1.01-2.52; p = 0.04) and WEI (OR: 3.31, 95% CI: 1.05-10.42; p = 0.04) were independent risk factors for symptomatic aneurysms. Ktrans was positively correlated with WEI (Spearman's coefficient of rank correlation (rs) = 0.41, p < 0.001). The combination of Ktrans and WEI achieved an area under the curve of 0.81 for differentiating symptomatic from asymptomatic aneurysms. CONCLUSIONS: Ktrans may be correlated with symptomatic aneurysms and AWE. Ktrans and WEI may provide an additional value than the PHASES score for risk stratification of UIAs. CLINICAL RELEVANCE STATEMENT: The volume transfer constant (Ktrans) from DCE-MRI perfusion is associated with symptomatic aneurysms and provides additional value above the clinical PHASES score for risk stratification of intracranial aneurysms. KEY POINTS: • The volume transfer constant is correlated with intracranial aneurysm symptoms and aneurysmal wall enhancement. • Dynamic contrast-enhanced and vessel wall MRI facilitates understanding of the pathophysiological characteristics of intracranial aneurysm walls. • The volume transfer constant and wall enhancement index perform better than the traditional PHASES score in differentiating symptomatic aneurysms.

Serum interleukin-1 (IL-1) are possibly indicative of the inflammation in the intracranial aneurysm (IA) wall. This study aimed to investigate whether IL-1 could discriminate the unstable IAs (ruptured intracranial aneurysms (RIAs) and symptomatic unruptured intracranial aneurysms (UIAs)) from stable, asymptomatic UIAs. IA tissues and blood samples from 35 RIA patients and 35 UIA patients were collected between January 2017 and June 2020 as the derivation cohort. Blood samples from 211 patients with UIAs were collected between January 2021 and June 2022 as the validation cohort (including 63 symptomatic UIAs). Blood samples from 35 non-cerebral-edema meningioma patients (non-inflammatory control) and 19 patients with unknown-cause subarachnoid hemorrhage (hemorrhagic control) were also collected. IL-1ß and IL-1.ra (IL-1 receptor antagonist) were measured in serum and IA tissues, and the IL-1 ratio was calculated as log10 (IL-1.ra/IL-1ß). Based on the derivation cohort, multivariate logistic analysis showed that IL-1ß (odds ratio, 1.48, P = 0.001) and IL-1.ra (odds ratio, 0.74, P = 0.005) were associated with RIAs. The IL-1 ratio showed an excellent diagnostic accuracy for RIAs (c-statistic, 0.91). Histological analysis confirmed the significant correlation of IL-1 between serum and aneurysm tissues. IL-1 ratio could discriminate UIAs from non-inflammatory controls (c-statistic, 0.84), and RIAs from hemorrhagic controls (c-statistic, 0.95). Based on the validation cohort, the combination of IL-1 ratio and PHASES score had better diagnostic accuracy for symptomatic UIAs than PHASES score alone (c-statistic, 0.88 vs 0.80, P < 0.001). Serum IL-1 levels correlate with aneurysm tissue IL-1 levels and unstable aneurysm status, and could serve as a potential biomarker for IA instability.

BACKGROUND: Lenticulostriate artery (LSA) obstruction is a potential cause of subcortical infarcts. However, MRI LSA evaluation at 3T is challenging. PURPOSE: To investigate middle cerebral artery (MCA) plaque characteristics and LSA morphology associated with subcortical infarctions in LSA territories using 7-T vessel wall MRI (VW-MRI) and time-of-flight MR angiography (TOF-MRA). STUDY TYPE: Prospective. POPULATION: Sixty patients with 80 MCA atherosclerotic plaques (37 culprit and 43 non-culprit). FIELD STRENGTH/SEQUENCE: 7-T with 3D TOF-MRA and T1-weighted 3D sampling perfection with application-optimized contrast using different flip angle evolutions (SPACE) sequences. ASSESSMENT: Plaque distribution (superior, inferior, ventral, or dorsal walls), LSA origin involvement, LSA morphology (numbers of stems, branches, and length), and plaque characteristics (normalized wall index, maximal wall thickness, plaque length, remodeling index, intraplaque hemorrhage, and plaque surface morphology (regular or irregular)) were assessed. STATISTICAL TESTS: Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator regression, generalized estimating equations regression, receiver operating characteristic curve, independent t-test, Mann-Whitney U test, Chi-square test, Fisher's exact test, and intra-class coefficient. A P value <0.05 was considered statistically significant. RESULTS: Plaque irregular surface, superior wall plaque, longer plaque length, LSA origin involvement, fewer LSA stems, and shorter total and average lengths of LSAs were significantly associated with culprit plaques. Multivariable logistic analysis confirmed that LSA origin involvement (OR, 28.51; 95% CI, 6.34-181.02) and plaque irregular surface (OR, 8.32; 95% CI, 1.41-64.73) were independent predictors in differentiating culprit from non-culprit plaques. A combination of LSA origin involvement and plaque irregular surface (area under curve = 0.92; [95% CI, 0.86-0.98]) showed good performance in identifying culprit plaques, with sensitivity and specificity of 86.5% and 86.0%, respectively. DATA CONCLUSION: 7-T VW-MRI and TOF-MRA can demonstrate plaque involvement with LSA origins. MCA plaque characteristics derived from 7-T VW-MRI showed good diagnostic accuracy in determining the occurrence of subcortical infarctions. EVIDENCE LEVEL: 2 TECHNICAL EFFICACY: Stage 3.

Triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) is becoming a sustainable and renewable way of energy harvesting and self-powered sensing because of low cost, simple structure, and high efficiency. However, the output current of existing TENGs is still low. It is proposed that the output current of TENGs can be dramatically improved if the triboelectric charges can distribute inside the triboelectric layers. Herein, a novel single-electrode conductive network-based TENG (CN-TENG) is developed by introducing a conductive network of multiwalled carbon nanotubes in dielectric triboelectric layer of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU). In this CN-TENG, the contact electrification-induced charges distribute on both the surface and interior of the dielectric TPU layer. Thus, the short-circuit current of CN-TENG improves for 100-fold, compared with that of traditional dielectric TENG. In addition, this CN-TENG, even without packing, can work stably in high-humidity environments and even in the rain, which is another main challenge for conventional TENGs due to charge leakage. Further, this CN-TENG is applied for the first time, to successfully distinguish conductive and dielectric materials. This work provides a new and effective strategy to fabricate TENGs with high output current and humidity-resistivity, greatly expanding their practical applications in energy harvesting, movement sensing, human-machine interaction, and so on.

Although the Himalayas act as a natural barrier, studies have demonstrated that certain traditional persistent organic pollutants (POPs) can be transported into the Tibetan Plateau (TP) through the mountain valleys. Herein, we selected five mountain valleys in the Himalayas to investigate novel flame retardants (NFRs), as representative novel POPs, their concentration, distribution, transport behavior, potential sources and ecological risk. The results revealed that total concentrations of 7 novel brominated flame retardants (NBFRs) ranged from 4.89 to 2853 pg/g dry weight (dw) in soil and from not detected (ND) to 4232 pg/g dw in moss. Additionally, total concentrations of 10 organophosphate esters (OPEs) ranged from ND to 84798 pg/g dw in soil. Among the NFRs, decabromodiphenylethane (DBDPE) and tri-phenyl phosphate (TPhP) were the predominant compounds. NBFRs and OPEs concentrations were slightly higher than those in the polar regions. The correlation between different compounds and altitude varies in different areas, indicating that the NFRs distribution in the mountain valleys result from a combination of long-range transport and local sources. The ecological risk assessment using risk quotient (RQs) revealed that TPhP and tris (2-chloroisopropyl) phosphate (TCIPP) exhibited medium or high risks at some sites. This study sheds light on the transport pathways and environmental behaviors of the NFRs in the valleys and highlights the need for increased attention to the ecological risks posed by OPEs in the TP.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Intracranial aneurysms are relatively common life-threatening diseases, and assessing aneurysm rupture risk and identifying the associated risk factors is essential. Parameters such as the Oscillatory Shear Index, Pressure Loss Coefficient, and Wall Shear Stress are reliable indicators of intracranial aneurysm development and rupture risk, but aneurysm surface irregular pulsation has also received attention in aneurysm rupture risk assessment. METHODS: The present paper proposed a new approach to estimate aneurysm surface deformation. This method transforms the estimation of aneurysm surface deformation into a constrained optimization problem, which minimizes the error between the displacement estimated by the model and the sparse data point displacements from the four-dimensional CT angiography (4D-CTA) imaging data. RESULTS: The effect of the number of sparse data points on the results has been discussed in both simulation and experimental results, and it shows that the proposed method can accurately estimate the surface deformation of intracranial aneurysms when using sufficient sparse data points. CONCLUSIONS: Due to a potential association between aneurysm rupture and surface irregular pulsation, the estimation of aneurysm surface deformation is needed. This paper proposed a method based on 4D-CTA imaging data, offering a novel solution for the estimation of intracranial aneurysm surface deformation.

BACKGROUND: The clinical value of myocardial torsion quantification in prognostic assessment and risk stratification of various cardiovascular diseases is gradually being recognized. However, normal values of left and right ventricular (LV and RV) torsion and torsion rates (TRs) have not been fully determined, and their correlation with age and gender has not been well studied. PURPOSE: To establish normal ranges of biventricular torsion, peak systolic and diastolic TRs using magnetic resonance feature tracking (MR-FT) technique based on a large sample of healthy adults, and further investigate their relationship with age and gender. STUDY TYPE: Retrospective. POPULATION: 566 Healthy adults (312 males, aged 43 ± 10 years; 254 females, aged 43 ± 11 years). FIELD STRENGTH/SEQUENCE: 1.5T/gradient echo. ASSESSMENT: Biventricular torsion, peak systolic, and diastolic TRs. STATISTICAL TESTS: Shapiro-Wilk test, Student's t-test, Mann-Whitney-U test, linear regression, intraclass correlation coefficient, Bland-Altman analysis. Differences were regarded as statistically significant at P < 0.05. RESULTS: Women demonstrated greater magnitudes of left ventricle (LV) torsion (1.23 ± 0.44 vs. 1.00 ± 0.42°/cm), peak systolic TR (9.69 ± 3.70 vs. 8.27 ± 3.73°/cm*sec), peak diastolic TR (-7.78 ± 2.82 vs. -6.06 ± 2.44°/cm*sec), and RV torsion (2.20 ± 1.23 vs. 1.65 ± 1.11°/cm*sec), peak systolic TR (16.07 ± 8.18 vs. 12.62 ± 7.08°/cm*sec), peak diastolic TR (-15.39 ± 6.53 vs. -11.70 ± 6.03°/cm*sec). For both genders, the magnitudes of LV and RV torsion, peak systolic, and diastolic TRs increased linearly with age. All the measurements of biventricular torsion, peak systolic and diastolic TRs achieved good to excellent intraobserver and interobserver reproducibility, with all intraclass correlation coefficients >0.70. DATA CONCLUSION: The present study systematically provided age- and sex-stratified reference values for LV and RV torsion and TRs using MR-FT technique. Women and aging are associated with greater magnitudes of biventricular torsion, peak systolic, and diastolic TRs. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: 3 TECHNICAL EFFICACY: Stage 2.

OBJECTIVES: In patients with an unruptured intracranial aneurysm, gadolinium enhancement of the aneurysm wall is associated with growth and rupture. However, most previous studies did not have a longitudinal design and did not adjust for aneurysm size, which is the main predictor of aneurysm instability and the most important determinant of wall enhancement. We investigated whether aneurysm wall enhancement predicts aneurysm growth and rupture during follow-up and whether the predictive value was independent of aneurysm size. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In this multicentre longitudinal cohort study, individual patient data were obtained from twelve international cohorts. Inclusion criteria were as follows: 18 years or older with ≥ 1 untreated unruptured intracranial aneurysm < 15 mm; gadolinium-enhanced aneurysm wall imaging and MRA at baseline; and MRA or rupture during follow-up. Patients were included between November 2012 and November 2019. We calculated crude hazard ratios with 95%CI of aneurysm wall enhancement for growth (≥ 1 mm increase) or rupture and adjusted for aneurysm size. RESULTS: In 455 patients (mean age (SD), 60 (13) years; 323 (71%) women) with 559 aneurysms, growth or rupture occurred in 13/194 (6.7%) aneurysms with wall enhancement and in 9/365 (2.5%) aneurysms without enhancement (crude hazard ratio 3.1 [95%CI: 1.3-7.4], adjusted hazard ratio 1.4 [95%CI: 0.5-3.7]) with a median follow-up duration of 1.2 years. CONCLUSIONS: Gadolinium enhancement of the aneurysm wall predicts aneurysm growth or rupture during short-term follow-up, but not independent of aneurysm size. CLINICAL RELEVANCE STATEMENT: Gadolinium-enhanced aneurysm wall imaging is not recommended for short-term prediction of growth and rupture, since it appears to have no additional value to conventional predictors. KEY POINTS: • Although aneurysm wall enhancement is associated with aneurysm instability in cross-sectional studies, it remains unknown whether it predicts risk of aneurysm growth or rupture in longitudinal studies. • Gadolinium enhancement of the aneurysm wall predicts aneurysm growth or rupture during short-term follow-up, but not when adjusting for aneurysm size. • While gadolinium-enhanced aneurysm wall imaging is not recommended for short-term prediction of growth and rupture, it may hold potential for aneurysms smaller than 7 mm.
